Hampshire Cultural Trust is working with The Reader as part of its plans to provide a programme of cultural engagement opportunities that directly respond to the needs of its local community.
In January, six Hampshire Cultural Trust volunteers and volunteers-to-be will embark on Read to Lead training to become Reader Leaders before launching weekly Shared Reading groups in communities within the region.
Two weekly groups will launch from February in two of the Trust’s community museum spaces: The Allen Gallery in Alton and Westbury Manor Museum in Fareham. The Allen Gallery is actively looking for volunteers to support Shared Reading in Alton in order to help combat isolation and loneliness.
Jemma Guerrier, Director of Development & Partnerships, said: “Hampshire Cultural Trust and The Reader have a shared belief in the power that cultural engagement can have on helping people to lead positive lives, and we’re thrilled to be working with them on this project.
“We can’t wait to see what lively, connected Shared Reading communities emerge in these beautiful cultural spaces – they’re the perfect place to bring great literature to life.”
